The Catholic case against Barack Obama
Tuesday, August 12, 2008, 2 a.m. -- In the Pennsylvania primary, Barack Obama rolled up more than 90 percent of the black vote. Among Catholics, he lost by 40 points. The cool liberal Harvard Law grad was not a good fit for the socially conservative ethics of Pennsylvania Catholics. Barack faces a far higher hurdle in the fall, writes conservative columnist Pat Buchanan. For not only is Barack the most pro-abortion member of the Senate, with his straight A+ report card from the National Abortion Rights Action League and Planned Parenthood. He supports the late-term procedure known as partial-birth abortion, where the baby's skull is stabbed with scissors in the birth canal and the brains are sucked out to end its life swiftly and ease passage of the corpse into the pan. High stakes gamble ...
Bill would allow slot machines across state without a vote
Monday, July 28, 2008, 11 p.m. -- If a bill planned by state Rep. Tom Burch is approved, Kentucky could be home to up to 18,000 slot machines -- and without the need to change the state constitution. About 6,000 slots would go to the state's horse tracks; the balance would go to the state's 120 counties. According to Burch's bill, slots couldn't be placed in a county until voters approved the plan. Why no need to change the constitution? You can thank former Attorney General Greg Stumbo, whose 1995 opinion said the state could expand gaming without changing the constitution. Click here for Pat Crowley's story at Cincinnati.com.
